Whenever it’s summer vacation, they return to being boys. Even though the calendar says it’s already autumn, summer vacation came a little later for KAT-TUN this year. Innocently laughing and having fun, those are the kind of days we’ll report on.
“It’s fun!” he shouts, meaning the beach.
We’re at the beach that Kamenashi loves a lot.
“There are still so many things I want to do before autumn arrives.”
With these words he stops the passing of the seasons and has as much summer fun as he wants. He laughed and ate a lot!
Chapter 1 Kamenashi Kazuya
“Let’s go to the beach. In summer you have to go to the beach, and it isn’t over yet, right?” Kamenashi says. “Let’s barbecue! ‘Cause I wanna eat lotsa meat!”
Somehow it became like ‘Okay! Let’s go to the beach’, and on a very hot day, which goes to show ‘the end of summer’ are just words, we escaped from Tokyo. The white convertible Porsche Kamenashi drives, took us smoothly to the beach.
He enjoys the drive by the shoreline, completely taking in the sunshine and sea breeze from his 919 from which he can see the sea.
He says “I feel great, I really do love the beach!”
Lost in thought, when he sees a sign saying ‘kakigoori’ *kind of like shaved ice* he brought the white Porsche to a sudden stop.
He enters the beach cabin which makes creaking noises. Kamenashi, looking very handsome, wearing sunglasses and getting out of his Porsche orders kakigoori and clams says: “Ma’am, one Blue Hawaii (kakigoori flavor). Oh and also baked clams ok?”
“I’m such a horrible guy. By the way this seems like a short story” he says, heartily laughing at himself, eating the clams, wearing his sunglasses, sitting in his Porsche.
Saying that the minute he gets home, he’ll buy up the beach cabin’s clams in bulk, the lady says “Wait here” and gives him a sardine. Laughing and really looking happy he says “Thank you! This is already so good, it already makes me incredibly happy”
The preparations for the barbecue are almost done. He stands next to the neatly lined up ingredients. “This is nice, I often use the petite barbecue on the balcony of my house. I let the eel and shishamo *a kind of dried fish* sizzle. While that’s good and I enjoy it, what I really like is being outdoors. Somehow I’m very happy.” And that’s the second time today he said he’s happy.
“It’s ok, I’m already cracking the shellfish” he says as he skilfully barbecues them one after another. Kamenashi has two mottos when it comes to barbecuing. The first is: “Even when you think that you probably can’t cook something anymore, do it anyway. That kind of spirit is important! You can’t cook while being picky, so be wild until the end”. The second is “Rather than think about ingredients you need to cut them in half. Because you will definitely have too much, it’s better to think, ‘isn’t this too little?’” This is a man who is hard on his own stomach, but nonetheless a man who’s kind to the earth.
Even if he would get diarrhoea he’d eat his raw?clams *question mark in the article* and meat with spirit and heartily laughing. That’s because “Kamenashi Kazuya is really into summer this year.” That’s the kind of story it became.
“In the middle of the night I’ll be doing a jigsaw puzzle from ‘One Piece’. After the recording of ‘Going!’, even though it’s pretty late when I get home, I somehow can’t sleep. So I tried taking up puzzling. It’s something you can get pretty absorbed in, this is. Before I knew it, it was morning.”
It was like on the countless sleepless nights he could meet Sanji* (a character he likes, “Definitely pick me for the live action adaptation,” he says, boldly making himself a candidate)
“Another thing are the cicadas. When I watched ‘Paranormal Activity’ in the middle of the night (it’s a pretty scary movie), suddenly I heard this noise through the window like tap-tap-tap coming from the balcony. I was super scared and shouted something like ‘WHAAA!!!’ While saying ‘Wh-wh-who’s there?’,when I went out onto the balcony with a flashlight there were all these dying cicadas laying around. Though I thought ‘don’t die at my house’ it’s been happening every night. Is my house their graveyard? Every night though, the number of cicadas crashing into my windows has been decreasing and I can really feel that the summer is coming to an end. When the noise dies away, it’ll be pretty sad. Feeling the seasons pass with the dying cicadas”
It's true that time flies when you’re having fun. Maybe you can see it, but the light has turned a little orange. Kamenashi rode a mare called Dina by the shoreline.
“You know, I found a secret beach on Okinawa. Because there were no people there at all, it was completely unspoilt, wild and pretty. That’s why no matter how many times I go to Okinawa; I sneak off to that beach. It’s my secret hideout. The other day I brought my mom as well! Though in elementary school, if I made a secret hideout, I definitely wouldn’t tell the adults about it, this year, I wanted to show my parents. Because it’s everyone’s beach right?”
He suddenly dashes off at full speed. He went on at that amazing speed for 30 minutes.
“Wow I feel great! Though I was scared at first, this really is the best feeling ever. It’s the first time I went this fast. It’s more difficult than driving a Porsche, but it’s fun!” He rewards Dina by patting her neck. “The wind was just right . My stomach felt just right too. Everything was just right, such a good summer! I’m somehow just so happy!” And so Kamenashi says he’s happy for the third time today. Happily and ‘just right’, the summer is coming to an end.
